Generalized raised-cosine filters

چکیده
Data transmission over bandlimited channels requires pulse shaping to eliminate or control intersymbol interference (ISI). Nyquist filters provide ISI-free transmission. Here we introduce a phase compensation technique to design Nyquist filters. Phase compensation can be applied to the square-root of any zero-phase bandlimited Nyquist filter with normalized excess bandwidth less than or equal to one. The resulting phase compensated square-root filter is also a Nyquist filter. In the case of a raised-cosine spectrum, the phase compensator has a simple piecewise-linear form. Such a technique is particularly useful to accommodate two different structures for the receiver, one with a filter matched to the transmitting filter and one without a matched filter. We also use the phase compensation technique to characterize a more general family of Nyquist filters which subsumes raisedcosine spectra. These generalized raised-cosine filters offer more flexibility in filter design. For instance, the rate of asymptotic decay of the filter impulse response may be increased, or the residual ISI, introduced by truncation of the impulse response, may be minimized. Design examples are provided to illustrate these choices.

A Family of Nyquist Filters Based on Generalized Raised-Cosine Spectra
Data transmission over bandlimited channels requires pulse shaping to eliminate or control Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI). A widely used filter for this purpose is the raised cosine filter which satisfies Nyquist’s first criterion. We design a phase compensator so that the square-root raised-cosine filter also satisfies Nyquist’s first criterion. Such a technique is particularly useful to acco...
متن کاملSelf-Equalized Distributed Amplifier for Wide Band Optical Transceivers
A novel technique for a self-equalized distributed amplifier is presented by showing the analogy between transversal filters and distributed amplifier topologies. The appropriate delay and gain coefficients of amplifier circuit are obtained by a Fourier expansion of the raised cosine spectrum in the frequency range of 0-40GHz.
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of Optimal Pulse Shaping Filters for Digital Radio Systems
Base band transmission of digital data requires the use of a low pass channel with a bandwidth large enough to accommodate the essential frequency content of the data stream. However the channel is dispersive in that its frequency response deviates from that of an ideal low pass filter. The result of data transmission over such channel is that each received pulse is affected somewhat by adjacen...
متن کاملFingerprint Image Enhancement via Raised Cosine Filtering
This paper aims to present fingerprint image enhancement by using directional circular raised cosine filters which are implemented using a radial component and an angular component. It has been compared with the common filters used for bandpass filtering, i.e. circular Gabor filters and Log-Gabor filters at the same bandwidth. The experimental results have found that the circular raised cosine ...

Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) and Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (OQPSK) are two wellaccepted modulation techniques used in Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) system. The Pulse-Shaping Filters play an important role in digital transmission. The type of Pulse-Shaping Filter used, and its behavior would influence the performance of the communication system. This in turn, would have...
